BCforward is currently seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist for an opportunity in Redmond, WA

Position Title: Research Scientist

Location: Redmond, WA

Anticipated Start Date: ASAP

Expected Duration: 12+ months, possible extension based on business needs

Job Type: Onsite

Pay Range: $68/hr. - $70/hr.

Job Summary:

Client is seeking a Research Scientist III to support the development of next-generation optoelectronic and organic materials for future AR/VR technologies. This role combines experimental materials science, laboratory automation, and hardware/software integration to streamline high-throughput experimental workflows.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience working in laboratory environments while also being comfortable programming hardware interfaces and building automated experimental systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and automate workflows for experimental screening of organic materials
• Develop and analyze next-generation optoelectronic materials
• Program hardware interfaces using Python, LabVIEW, C, or similar languages
• Work with DAQ systems, motion control systems, and communication protocols such as Serial/I2C/SPI
• Perform hands-on experimental laboratory work and bench-top testing
• Design crystal growth, nucleation, and processing experiments
• Collaborate with cross-functional research and engineering teams
• Analyze material properties and communicate findings through technical reports
• Support translation of research into practical Meta product applications

Required Qualifications

• PhD or Master’s degree in:
• Physics
• Chemistry
• Optical Science & Engineering
• Electrical Engineering
• Or related technical field
• 5–7 years of relevant experience
• Strong experience with hardware programming and automation
• Experience with laboratory experimentation and material analysis
• Experience in one or more of the following:
• Organic materials
• Crystallization
• Nucleation
• Solid-state analysis
• Optoelectronic materials
• Ability to work independently in a research-focused environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with:
• XRD
• Spectroscopy
• DSC
• Optical microscopy
• HPLC / LC-MS / UV-Vis / GC
• Knowledge of crystallographic software:
• CCDC Suite
• Olex2
• Profex
• BGMN
• Experience working with organic crystals and solubility analysis
• CAD software exposure
• Strong technical documentation and report-writing skills
• Publications, patents, grants, or research fellowships preferred
